Hi there!

Have you ever driven through Texas down I-35? In such a big state, it’s not too far from Dallas to San Antonio – just 275 miles – but both cities are unique. And each one has problems that require unique solutions.

In Dallas, the Texas Center for Justice and Equity (TCJE) team is focused on supporting students – because Black and brown students are over-disciplined compared to white students. They’re suspended, expelled, removed to alternative education programs, and even sent to the juvenile justice system at higher rates. That makes it harder for these students to learn and succeed in the long run.

In San Antonio, our team is working on a different part of the system: probation. Although probation is supposed to be an “alternative” to incarceration, people on supervision in San Antonio are being kicked off and incarcerated more than anywhere else in Texas. It’s wrong, and it hurts people and their families.

You can join us and other supporters in making a change RIGHT NOW

The Texas Center for Justice and Equity (TCJE) is creating solutions that will help people across the entire state.

And YOU can make those solutions a reality to help more Texans thrive.

Right now, we’re getting ready for one of our biggest giving days of the year. TCJE will be participating in giving events in both Dallas AND San Antonio from September 22-23. Early giving is open for both fundraisers, and you can be an early donor to help us make this change possible!

NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY supports nonprofits doing work in the DFW area.

And TCJE is on the ground in Dallas with a mission: to make sure students of color are treated fairly.

Our Dallas-based “P.E.P. Initiative” has been listening to students, parents, teachers, and community providers about what really works to keep kids on the right path and feeling supported – things like restorative justice, mindfulness, mentoring, entrepreneurship, goal attainment, and positive self-perception.

For the first time, we’re working directly with Dallas-area schools to coordinate classes that provide these tools to students who need them. You can help us expand this work to 4 additional schools!

With your investment in TCJE during North Texas Giving Day, more students of color in Dallas-area schools will have opportunities to feel supported and thrive. Early giving is open – donate here today!

THE BIG GIVE supports nonprofits doing work in San Antonio and surrounding areas.

Right now, TCJE is working to get data on probation into the hands of community members and local leaders in Bexar County. Because to help people succeed, we need to know more.

You can help us create a first-of-its-kind data tool that will shed light on issues around probation and its failures in San Antonio. You will be giving our team, our partners, and our community a bigger advantage in the fight to fix the harms of probation.

With your contribution to TCJE during the Big Give, people will have access to information to demand better outcomes for themselves, their families, and their communities. And local leaders will have the data to make changes to policies that are hurting people. Early giving is open – donate here today!

No matter where you live, your support during North Texas Giving Day and the Big Give will help Texas families and communities thrive.

Check out our profile pages at the links above (👆) to learn more about what we’re doing locally, and join us in fighting for real community wellness, equity, and safety for kids and adults across Texas.

I’m grateful for your generosity and partnership,
Leah

P.S. TCJE is proud to connect with local communities to focus on the issues that matter to them. Change is possible, but not without you. Whether you join us during North Texas Giving Day or Big Give San Antonio, you’re helping build a vision for safe, healthy, just communities.
